Corporal Andrew C. Smail

Corporal Andrew C. Smail served in the 56th battalion (Grenville, Ontario) for Canada during the Fenians Raids conflict. He is entitled to the Canada General Service Medal clasp Fenian Raid 1870

August 18th, 1850 : He was born on that day

Spring of 1870, he enlisted in the 56th Battalion

May 24th 1870 : Battalion assembled at Prescott and expected the attack. They never saw the enemy and they never fired a shot.

1881 Canadian census : he is not listed in the census

1891 census same information as in the 1901 census but with them is listed a son Alvon Smail Age 14 (born in 1877)

1900 December 17th : His medal was sent at his address in Spencervile, Ontario

– Niece : Mable Smail born April 18th, 1889

1911 census information He was Presbyterian and farmer and born in august of 1856

– Catherine Smail born in November 1856

– Mable Smail born on April 1889  (daughter)

– Charlotte Linnen Born on August  1863  (sister in law)

1918 : Died and buried in St Andrew’s Presbyterian Cemetery Spencerville, Ontario

Charlotte Linnen 1863-1944 (sister in law)      Almon Smail 1877-1950 (son)

Mabel Mae Dusenberry 1889-1968 (daughter)

His father Andre Smail married Permilla Cowdrey on March 14th, 1838
